Keeping your own backups is an important part of managing a website. cPanel provides tools that allow you to create and download a backup of your hosting account.
A recent backup gives you an additional copy of important website files and data before making major changes, updates or modifications.
Create a backup from cPanel
Full vs. partial backups
Depending on the tools available in cPanel, you may be able to create a full account backup or download individual components such as your home directory, databases or email-related configuration.
Do not keep your only backup inside the same hosting account as your website. Download important backups and store them in a separate, secure location.
Before making major website changes
Creating a fresh backup before updating WordPress, changing plugins, modifying website files or performing other major changes is a good practice.
Also remember that generating a backup and restoring one are different operations. If you're unsure about restoring website files or databases, avoid overwriting your existing website until you understand what will be replaced.
